CFP WFS2006 – 7th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON FREE SOFTWARE – Porto Alegre (Brazil)

Here is the call for paper for the 7th International Workshop on Free Software (WFS2006) which will be held in Porto Alegre in april 2006 (permanent address of this CFP : http://fisl.softwarelivre.org/7.0/www/?q=en/node/88). CFP issued on 2006/01/16.

I’ll be chairing the TPC, which will also include other participants to the Calibre project.

CALL FOR PAPERS of INTERNATIONAL TRACK

Free software (aka Libre Software, or OpenSource Software), has gained tremendous momentum all over the world, and is recognised as one of the major trends of the software industry, as well as an example for creation and diffusion of all intellectual goods in a networked economy, drawing ne models for the Information Society.

Still businesses or organisations, governments or individual users need to clarify their views concerning adoption or participation to the development of Free Software.

Beyond anecdotal succes or failure of some particular Free Software projects, which will attract the media attention, researchers are studying the complex mix of technical, economical and social factors that regulate laws of the Libre Software projects and communities.

The 7th International Workshop on Free Software (WFS2006), which will be co-located with the International Free Software Forum 2006, intends to present and discuss the developments and research activities related to libre software carried out in academia and industry. Three main tracks : National, International and Free Software in
Universities, will provide the attendance with a good mix of fundational works and return on experience.

Authors are invited to submit papers describing finished or under development work related to relevant aspects of libre software. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Free software-based research;
  • Comparing and evaluating free software solutions against proprietary solutions;
  • Adaptation and expansion of free software;
  • Academic experimentations using free software;
  • Use of free software in education;
  • Emerging technologies supported by free software;
  • Operating system distributions;
  • Networks and distributed systems;
  • Free software on databases, imaging processing, computer graphics;
  • Free software for artificial intelligence;
  • Digital inclusion;
  • E-government and free software;
  • E-Commerce and free software;
  • Public digital services;
  • Regional integration, and globalization.

Accepted papers will be included in the WFS 2006 proceedings. At least one author of each accepted paper should register to the event and be present at WFS 2006 to present the work in one of the three .

PAPER SUBMISSION

Papers should be written in English and formatted following the Brazilian Computer Society style. Paper templates are available at https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/templates

Papers are limited to 8 pages. Authors should submit their work registering the paper and uploading a PDF file through the electronic submission Web site at https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/home.cgi?c=281
